What's Ahead For Post-Newtown Legislation?

Yesterday, President Barack Obama and Vice President Joe Biden announced 23 executive orders and proposed laws in response to the horrific shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

"No one can know for certain if this senseless act could have been prevented, but we all know we have a moral obligation -- a moral obligation to do everything in our power to diminish the prospect that something like this could happen again," said Biden.

The proposals range from renewing - and strengthening the nation’s assault weapons ban, requiring universal background checks and ending a freeze on gun violence research.

The president plans an election style campaign to push for the changes - which are already facing strong criticism from the NRA and its supporters in congress.

But action’s happening at the state level, too...Connecticut lawmakers have formed a bi-partisan group to look at recommendations, that’s after New York lawmakers quickly adopted some new measures.

Today, a look inside the state of gun legislation here in Connecticut and elsewhere in the country.
