Superior Court Judge Barbara Bellis is presiding over the lawsuit brought by families of some of the victims of the Sandy Hook school shooting against gun maker Remington Arms. The company wants to withold records requested by the plaintiffs.

A Connecticut judge heard arguments in Bridgeport on Thursday on whether company documents of gun maker Remington Arms should be sealed from public view as it fights a lawsuit filed by families of some of the victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.

Remington wants many company records requested by the families' lawyers sealed from public view, saying disclosing them would hurt the company financially and benefit competitors.

Remington Arms’ subsidiary, Bushmaster Firearms, made the AR-15-style rifle used to kill 20 first-graders and six educators in Newtown. The families of nine people who were killed and a teacher who survived allege the company should not have sold such a dangerous weapon to civilians.
