A college student wanted in connection with two killings and a kidnapping in Connecticut was taken into custody in Maryland Wednesday after he surrendered peacefully. Police believe Peter Manfredonia, a senior at the University of Connecticut, killed two people and wounded another in the past week.

At a news conference Thursday, Connecticut State Police Lt. Michael Pendleton said two state detectives were with law enforcement at a rest stop in Hagerstown, Maryland, Wednesday night. They had received a tip that Manfredonia was close.
“As they were talking about his height -- 6-3, 6-4 -- one of the team members turned, and approximately 20 feet away from him was a gentleman who was 6-foot-4,” Pendleton said.
The man also had red sneakers on, matching the description of Manfredonia. Police then approached him with their guns drawn.
“At that point, he went to the ground,” Pendleton said. “He did not resist. And absolutely no force was used to affect the arrest.”
Pendleton said Manfredonia then walked officers to a gun he had roughly 200 yards away. Manfredonia declined to fight extradition back to Connecticut during a brief court hearing conducted by video Thursday. Pendleton said that Manfredonia will soon be brought back to the state, that the investigation is ongoing and that he would not comment on a possible motive.
