Conn. Supreme Court Rules Lamont Can Close Businesses During COVID

In a ruling on Thursday, the state Supreme Court upheld Governor Ned Lamont’s closure of businesses in an effort to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The suit was initially filed in June by Kristine Casey, a Milford pub owner, who wanted to challenge Lamont’s executive orders. The plaintiff claimed Lamont’s orders to keep bars closed during the pandemic was an abuse of power. While the court acknowledged the difficult economic situations many businesses are facing, the ruling said the governor is charged with protecting the state in the face of such an unpredictable health crisis. The court is expected to release a more complete ruling at a later date.
