Lamont Won't Back New Property Tax Proposal

Gov. Ned Lamont says he does not support the idea of increasing taxes on the state's wealthiest residents. He was responding to a proposal by fellow Democrat, state Senate President Pro Tem Martin Looney. Looney is pitching a new statewide property tax that would target homes valued at more than $43o,ooo. A legislative estimate shows that property owners in Lamont's home town of Greenwich would pay about 25 pecent of the statewide revenues if the new tax were implemented.

Congress has eliminated all funding for public media.
