The Trump Administration said the January 29 raid in Yemen that left U.S. Navy SEAL Ryan Owens dead, along with ten Yemeni children and at least six women "was a very, very well thought out and executed effort."

The administration initially claimed the goal of the nighttime mission was intelligence gathering, until Thursday, when General Joseph Votel, the Pentagon's top Middle East commander, told Congress the raid targeted, but failed to kill a senior al Qaeda official. Votel also said there would be no need for further investigation - despite eyewitness reports from numerous people, including children, disputing the administration's narrative.

Lastly, Preet Bharara, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, was one of forty-six U.S. Attorney's remaining from the Obama Administration asked to resign this weekend. Bharara refused and was fired.
