The Scramble: Dark Clouds Over The White House

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff

Like the Alexander of children's literature, President Trump had a "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad" week.

In the prior dark days, the president took a sharp turn on his support for gun control policies opposed by the NRA, imposed tariffs on steel and aluminum without warning, fumed over the Mueller investigation's intensifying gaze on son-in-law and advisor Jared Kushner, and lamented the resignation of Hope Hicks, his most trusted advisor.

His aides and friends are worried about him and legislators struggle to negotiate with an increasingly volatile and erratic president. Can the president handle the pressure of the office?

Also this hour: The Connecticut legislature struggles to decide whether to elevate Connecticut Supreme Court justice Andrew McDonald to chief justice. Why?

Lastly, it's "tanking" season at the NBA. That's when major league sports franchises choose to lose games as a strategy to rebuild for future success.

GUESTS:

  • Philip Rucker - White House Bureau Chief at the Washington Post and a political analyst for MSNBC and NBC News
  • Len Fasano - Connecticut Senate Republican President Pro Tempore and state senator serving the 34th District of Durham, East Haven, North Haven and Wallingford.
  • Dave Sheinin - Sports and features writer for the Washington Post and the author of RG3: The Promise
