High winds knock out power to thousands in Connecticut

High winds overnight and this morning knocked out power to roughly 12,000 Eversource customers and roughly 700 served by United Illuminating.

The majority of outages are in the eastern part of the state. By 9 a.m. the majority of UI outages had been restored.

The Tolland Fire Department confirmed to Connecticut Public Radio that a tree hit a car on Crystal Lake Road early Friday morning. No other details were immediately available.

Once the high winds move out of the state a cold front is forecasted to move in. Connecticut Public Radio Meteorologist Garett Argianas is advising people keep their heavy coat with them as temperatures will drop into the 30s by the afternoon and remain seasonable cold through the weekend with snow flurries expected Saturday.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
