One of the things I remember most vividly about our interview with Roy Wood Jr. is how surprised our team felt when it started. We heard a different Roy Wood Jr. from the one we’d expected. Rather than the comedic persona that he brings to his work on television, the Roy we met opened up and spoke introspectively about his career. The conversation became somewhat prescient in October when Roy announced that he would leave his role as a correspondent on The Daily Show.

Our interview with Roy does what I think the best interviews do— it shows a side of a person that our listeners wouldn’t otherwise get to hear and allows those listeners to reflect on their own lives.

Our submission starts in the middle of our conversation with Roy as he discusses the prank phone calls he made early in his career.
