Is Bridgeport Ready for Joe Ganim's Return?

No one can argue the charisma of former Bridgeport mayor Joe Ganim. He served five terms as a beloved leader in a city long plagued by  crime, poverty, and corruption, much of the corruption under the Ganim administration.

In 2003, Ganim was sentenced to nine years in prison for using his office to enrich himself in a pay-to-play scheme offering city contracts to the highest bidder. Released in 2010 after serving seven of his nine years, he wants to come back to Bridgeport.

Barely losing the Democratic Town Committee nomination to represent the party, he lost no time gathering the 1,800 signatures needed to force a September primary. He added an extra 500 signatures for good measure.

But after the trouble and expense Ganim caused the city of Bridgeport, why should Bridgeport trust him again?
