A gunman opened fire on a crowd assembled for an outdoor concert festival Sunday night, killing more than 50 people and wounding hundreds, from a high floor within the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.
We're not going to talk about policy today or motives for why this occurred. Instead, we'll talk with New Yorker writer Adam Gopnik about our common humanity in the face of these disasters and the Principles that we might collectively agree upon.
Also this hour: Despite the unique challenges of handling disasters on an island, some say the Trump Administration lost precious time in responding to Puerto Rico's plight. Yet, he wasted no time targeting the mayor of San Juan with inappropriate tweets after she criticized the "inefficient" response. Others point to the years of inattention to the dire economic and infrastructure needs that left Puerto Rico vulnerable in a way we would never accept in the states.
