This Saturday, more than 1,300 museums across the country will offer free admission as part of Smithsonian magazine's annual Museum Day Live!
The event is a celebration of the Smithsonian Institution's free admission policy at its Washington, D.C.-based museums every day.
Anyone interested in visiting one of the participating museums on Museum Day Live! can download a free ticket online good for two people.
In Connecticut, museum-goers have their choice of 19 participating institutions that run the gamut from fine art, history, and natural history, to more specialized museums like the New England Carousel Museum in Bristol, and Tolland's Old Tolland County Jail and Museum.
Bob Burns, the director of the Mattatuck Museum in Waterbury, said Museum Day Live! is all about discovery.
"Well, its an opportunity for us to be associated with the Smithsonian Institution, and for people who love the Smithsonian to learn about a little undiscovered gem in Waterbury, Connecticut," Burns said. "So it's hopefully targeting a new audience of people who are known museum lovers who may not have heard of us."
