ALMA image of protoplanetary disc surrounding the young star HL Tauri. Scientists think these discs tell us a lot about how planets form.

When it comes to space, there’s a lot to be excited about. Telescopes are scanning the farthest reaches of our galaxy and we’re learning more than ever before about the origins of planets.

Astronomers are asking the age old question, “Are we alone?” and scientists are unraveling the mysteries of dark matter.

Here in our own solar system, there’s a lot of cool stuff going on too.

We just landed for the first time ever on a comet. We just woke up a spacecraft that’s going to get within shouting distance of pluto!

NASA has successfully launched a ship that could one day take astronauts to Mars, and private corporations are getting into the space race like never before.

This hour, we talk exciting news in space with a panel of three scientists.

GUESTS:

John Dankosky, Betsy Kaplan, and Chion Wolf contributed to this show.

This show originally aired on December 16, 2014.
