So, if there are now 7 billion people in the world, how can we possibly need to have MORE babies?

Well, the truth is, today, deaths outnumber births in more than a dozen countries, and another 24 will see population decline by mid century.

Author and Journalist Jonathan Last says if that trend doesn't change here in America, we’re in for a huge economic crisis.  In his book What to Expect When No One’s Expecting, he explains why the “population implosion” happened and how it is remaking culture, economy and politics around the world. He says that “if America wants to continue to lead the world, we need to have more babies!”

But not everyone's convinced of his argument. Globally the birth rate is still high. What about our ever-more-scarce natural resources? What about the stretching of the social fabric as man's need to expand pushes up against it's ability to live together?
