In addition to the reporting by Connecticut Public Radio that appears below, Connecticut Public Television has produced two video series that focus on manufacturing in our state:Made in Connecticut profiles some of Connecticut's local manufacturing businesses, from high-tech to handmade.Making the Future introduces us to some Connecticut youth pursuing careers in manufacturing and the trades. This series was produced as part of the American Graduate: Getting to Work project with support form the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Big Changes At UTC; Goodwin's Mobile Trailer Takes Manufacturing On The Road

United Technologies, headquartered in Farmington, Connecticut, has announced it will break into three companies by 2020. What will this mean for jobs and business in the state? This hour, we take a closer look.

Later, we hear how a mobile trailer is taking manufacturing skills training to parking lots across Connecticut.

And finally, we learn how a StoryCorps initiative brought two Trinity College students to the table to discuss their political differences.

Hartford Business Journal: Hayes: UTC investors drove split - "The chief executive, in his fourth year leading the company, says the three multibillion-dollar businesses are strong enough to operate independently, making the split 'the right thing for our employees, our customers and shareholders.' UTC has about 233,700 employees globally and about 69,000 and 18,000, respectively, in the U.S. and Connecticut."

Hartford Courant: Goodwin College Mobile Classroom Hits The Road To Pitch Connecticut Students On Manufacturing - "The advanced manufacturing mobile lab is one response among many in Connecticut to find workers to fill thousands of manufacturing jobs. In addition to visiting schools, the portable classroom also heads to manufacturers to teach new skills to workers or help upgrade what they already know."
