Tribune Publishing Moves Forward With Alden Global Capital Bid

The Hartford Courant’s parent company, Tribune Publishing, is moving forward with an acquisition bid from hedge fund Alden Global Capital. The news comes after the newspaper company considered a competing offer from two investors. Over the weekend, one of the investors, a Swiss billionaire, dropped out leaving the other -- Maryland businessman Stewart Bainum -- to fund the bid on his own. No date has been set for shareholders to consider Alden’s bid.

Federal funding is gone.

Congress has eliminated all funding for public media.

That means $2.1 million per year that Connecticut Public relied on to deliver you news, information, and entertainment programs you enjoyed is gone.
