Connecticut, especially Hartford, has a special relationship with the island of Puerto Rico. These ties brought Sila Calderón to the state this week. She was the keynote speaker last night at a meeting of the Hartford Foundation for Public Giving’s Latino Endowment Fund.

Calderón was Puerto Rico’s first and only woman governor and the first woman elected to be Mayor of San Juan. She started the Sila M. Calderón Foundation – to reduce poverty and inequity, advance the role of women in society, promote urban revitalization, and strengthen ethical values and social responsibility in Puerto Rico.

Federal funding is gone.

Congress has eliminated all funding for public media.

That means $2.1 million per year that Connecticut Public relied on to deliver you news, information, and entertainment programs you enjoyed is gone.
