This year marks an important milestone in Russian history -- the 100th anniversary of the 1917 Russian Revolution.

Coming up, we travel back in time with author and Smithsonian magazine contributor Ian Frazier. We talk about the events -- and bloodshed -- that paved the way for the former USSR. And we consider their relevance today.

Plus: the legacy of Churaevka. What remains of Southbury’s historic Russian community? We take a closer look and we also hear from you.

GUESTS:

  • Ian Frazier - Smithsonian contributor and author of Travels in Siberia
  • Andrei Harwell - Connecticut resident and second-generation Russian-American
  • Terrell Jermaine Starr - Senior reporter at The Root
