LISTEN: Connecticut Should Be 'Concerned' If Chubb Acquires The Hartford

Connecticut Public Radio

Insurance giant Chubb has made an unsolicited $23.24 billion offer to acquire locally based The Hartford Financial Services Group. To mull over what will and what could happen here, insurance industry expert Frederick McKinney of Quinnipiac visited with All Things Considered.

He talked about the likelihood of The Hartford accepting Chubb’s offer and the Connecticut Insurance Department approving the deal. He also predicts what effect this union of companies would have on the Connecticut job market.

And you’ll want to stick around until the end to hear McKinney opine on whether the potential loss of The Hartford will become a political issue in Connecticut, in the same way the loss of GE has.

John Henry Smith is Connecticut Public’s host of All Things Considered, its flagship afternoon news program. He's proud to be a part of the team that won a regional Emmy Award for The Vote: A Connecticut Conversation. In his 21st year as a professional broadcaster, he’s covered both news and sports.
