State Delays Decision on Eliminating a Clean Energy Program

After pushback from environmental and consumer advocates, state regulators have decided to delay a decision canceling a clean energy program.

<--break->The Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, or PURA, wanted to eliminate the Connecticut Clean Energy Options Program, or CCEO.

That's a program that allows electric customers to pay a few dollars more on their bill to support clean energy development.

The decision was planned for this week, but a spokesperson for PURA now says the board is delaying its final decision indefinitely.

The news comes as several groups -- including industry, environmental advocates, and the state Office of Consumer Counsel -- filed formal objections to canceling the program.

Since its inception in 2003, CCEO has signed up thousands of new customers, while the market for renewable energy has grown.
