Former Baseball Manager Leads Fundraising In Stamford Mayor's Race

According to the latest campaign finance reports, former baseball manager Bobby Valentine leads the Stamford mayor's race in fundraising.

Valentine has brought in more than $300,000 so far.

Among his contributors was one who listed his occupation on campaign finance forms as retired former president. George W. Bush gave $500. Valentine once worked for Bush as a manager in the Texas Rangers organization.

Valentine is running as an independent.

Democratic state Representative Caroline Simmons brought in a total of $240,000 during her campaign.

Incumbent Democratic Stamford Mayor David Martin is in third place for fundraising, with almost $80,000 collected in total.

Martin tells the Stamford Advocate he has been out-raised in previous elections... and won anyway.
