Four days after Bob Diaco was relieved of his head coaching duties as head coach of UConn's football team, the University of Connecticut introduced his replacement at Pratt and Whitney Stadium in East Hartford on Friday. The program’s winningest coach, Randy Edsall, officially returned for a second stint as head coach of UConn Football.

“What I’m doing now is I apologize for how I left,” Edsall said, addressing his 2011 decision to leave the team. “It was wrong. I take full ownership and accountability for that, and now, we are going to move forward together.”

The team has compiled a record of 24 wins and 49 losses since Edsall left the program. During his previous stint, the Huskies won two Big East conference championships.

“We need an experienced head coach that has successfully rebuilt a program and most importantly, we need a coach that can and will win,” said UConn’s Director of Athletics David Benedict. “Randy Edsall is that coach.”

The team will begin practicing for the upcoming season on January 16.
