The Nose On Melania's Jacket, 'Incredibles 2,' And Anthony Lane's Lascivious 'Incredibles 2' Review

There are three movies that deserve the credit (blame?) for the superhero/comic book movie renaissance/boom(/apocalypse?) that we've been living through now for nearly a decade and a half: Batman Begins (2005), Spider-Man 2 (2004), and Brad Bird's The Incredibles (2004).

In the 14 years between installments in the Incredibles franchise, there have been 19 movies and 20 seasons of television that all belong to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The 20th M.C.U. movie comes out in two weeks. Between 2004 and 2018, there have been nine X-Men-related movies, seven Batman-related movies, and six Spider-Man-related movies, and that's all just counting the live-action ones. (I checked all those numbers a couple of times. They're really right. Even the 20 seasons of television. No kidding.)

All this to say: Brad Bird's Incredibles 2 (2018) enters a cinematic landscape very different from the one the franchise started in. The Nose wonders how much it matters.
