Mystic Bake Shop Owner Crowned 'Best Baker In America'

Adam Young, the co-owner of Mystic’s Sift Bake Shop, won Food Network’s reality baking competition Best Baker in America.

The show, hosted by celebrity chefs Jason Smith and Marcela Valladolid, pits nine chefs from around the country against each other through various baking challenges. To celebrate his victory, Sift has started serving a special rendition of a Boston cream pie.

“So I made basically the Mystic Cream Pie, which is a little bit of a flashier, sophisticated version of the Boston cream pie and that's something that's been very, very popular with and we're pleased with,” Young said.

Young and his wife, Ebbie, recently opened a seasonal storefront in Rhode Island. They hope the victory will help propel them towards more expansion.

“As a small business, it would obviously be very difficult to afford something like that. So the outreach has just been absolutely remarkable and we're pulling in folks from all over,” Young said. “From the cities, all over the place that are coming to visit specifically for the bakery, which is a wonderful feeling.”

Young got his start in the culinary world when he was 12 years old, working as a dishwasher at a Victorian-style inn in Leicester, Vermont. After graduating high school, he enrolled in the New England Culinary Institute, where he graduated from in 2005.

Following a series of apprenticeships along the east coast, Adam and Ebbie opened Sift Bakery in May of 2016. The bakery serves a variety of French pastries, as well as offering a full barista.
