Earlier this week, Jackson Laboratories broke ground on a...well, a groundbreaking new facility in Farmington. In collaboration with UConn and the state, they hope to pioneer genomic medicine and incubate new startup biotechs in the state.

The state of Connecticut has made a big commitment to this project, investing $291 million dollars. So what will this investment bring to Connecticut?

Joining us in-studio is Mike Hyde. He’s the Vice President for Advancement and External Relations at Jackson Laboratories. He was in the state for the groundbreaking ceremony.

Although the new facility will be on the campus of the UConn Health Center in Farmington, Hyde said Jackson Laboratories will work with organizations from around the state. He's hoping that Jackson will serve as a "catalyst" for other local organizations "who want to expand into the whole bioscience realm."
