Hartford Resident Sues to Reopen Flower Street

Christopher Brown is a cyclist in Hartford, and he's suing the Connecticut Department of Transportation for closing Flower Street. Brown described the street as "a crucial North/South route for safe bike and pedestrian travel between Capitol and Farmington Avenues."
Brown filed his suit in Hartford's Superior Court last week, asking the court to order DOT to reopen the street and begin construction on the bridge as per an administrative law judge's orders from earlier this year. "I cannot accept what is essentially a directive from the state DOT to go play in traffic, especially when that traffic includes highway ramps and dangerous intersections," Brown said. "Flower Street is a vital route for bicyclists and pedestrians. It must remain open for the sake of the safety and livability of the residents and workers of Frog Hollow and Asylum Hill."
