LISTEN: What's Next For Connecticut's Hard-Hit Nursing Homes?

Connecticut Health I-Team

Those in nursing homes and senior care facilities -- along with the thousands of workers whose job it is to try to keep them safe -- are statistically still at the greatest risk of contracting the coronavirus and dying from it.

As of last week, just over 1,600 nursing home residents statewide had died from COVID-19, accounting for more than half of the coronavirus-related deaths in Connecticut.

We depend on your support. Donate to Connecticut Public today.

Of the state’s 213 nursing home facilities, 159 have reported a case of COVID-19. Dr. Richard Feifer is an assistant clinical professor at UConn as well as the chief medical officer for Genesis HealthCare, the nation’s largest nursing home operator, which has 17 locations in Connecticut. He spoke with Connecticut Public Radio’s John Henry Smith.
